Polygeneration

Polygeneration is the simultaneous generation of useful thermal, mechanical and electrical energy by concatenated thermodynamic processes and the sound use of by-products. Residual heat from electricity generation is fed into the district heating network and can be used for space cooling in combination with sorption technologies. Due to efficient utilization of primary energy on the basis of cascading, energy is saved. The total efficiency of a polygeneration application depends on the energy source and plant type as well as on the characteristics of the energy demands.
