Lack of standards and regulations

Standards are one of the most important policy instruments for promoting new sustainable mobility technologies. A good example is the recent standardisation of e-mobility equipment. With an optimal level of standardisation and regulation at a European level, a more rapid market breakthrough can be achieved, and user experience can be improved.

The aspect of European-level coordination must be emphasised: it is crucial to ensure the interoperability of different equipment, as well as to avoid the proliferation of different systems in the various member states. Examples include road toll systems, congestion charge systems, or e-charging systems.
