Demand response is the intentional modification of normal consumption patterns by end-use customers in response to incentives from grid operators, peaks of renewable energy generation or some compensation to reduce their power consumption at times of peak demand. The main objective of demand response is to maximize the integration of renewable energy systems while maintaining or improving today’s levels of electricity supply reliability, energy security, economic growth and prosperity.

REMOURBAN Site Valladolid

Valladolid is the capital of the autonomous region of Castile and Leon in the north-west part of Spain, and with a population of 307 052 people it is the biggest city in the region. The demonstration site of the REMOURBAN project in Valladolid covers the FASA district, which has a surface of 3.5 km2 and is part of the Delicias neighbourhood, located in the south-east of Valladolid. The district was designed and built at the beginning of the 1960s for workers of the FASA company.

The OPTi project aspires to create a long-lasting impact by rethinking the way district heating and cooling (DHC) systems are architected and controlled. The overarching goal is to create business benefit for the industry as well as to ensure optimal end-consumer satisfaction.

OPTi will deliver methodologies and tools that will enable accurate modelling, analysis and control of current and envisioned DHC systems. The methodology will be deployed both on a complete system level, and on the level of a building(s).

The model leverages the convergence between energy, mobility and ICT to improve quality of life, ensure social acceptance and empower citizens.
