In the latest call for Smart Cities and Communities under the Horizon 2020 Work Programme, 12 different projects seeking to develop smart cities turned in proposals to INEA. Combined, the projects have applied for €176.5 million in funding with roughly a third of that funding (€55 million) available in the call.

The call for proposals was centred on the creation of Positive-Energy-Districts, which are urban areas that, on a yearly basis, have net- zero energy import and net- zero CO2 emissions, working towards an annual local surplus production of renewable energy.

The selection of projects will be carried out by external independent experts drawn from the European Commission’s database. The projects will be assessed in a single-stage evaluation. The final results of the selection will be known by the 12 May 2020.

The Horizon 2020 programme is not the only source for financing Smart City projects. Private investors, financiers and other initiatives are also actively looking for projects, solutions and cities to invest in. Join key stakeholders in Brussels for the EIP-SCC Matchmaking event on 20 February to find financing for your project and to share your project idea with investors.
