SESAC Site Växjö

Växjö, a city with 64,200 inhabitants in the south of Sweden wants to free itself from fossil fuels by the year 2030. It has already taken big steps in the right direction, reducing its CO2 emissions from fossil fuels by 34 % from 1993-2009. Another objective is to reduce the energy use per capita by 15% between 2008 and 2015.

cRRescendo Site Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes already has a reputation in the UK as an energy pioneer. Designated in the 1960’s as a planned new town, it is located close to London.

The Concerto-Project will comprise 7 blocks totalling 650 dwellings, with retail and community facilities at ground floor on main frontages. All in all, nearly 3,830 people will directly benefit from the project in Milton-Keynes. Because of renewable energy supply and energy savings, the buildings they live in will produce just half the CO2 that would be produced by equivalent dwellings without the measures.

cRRescendo Site Almere

Almere is a young municipality. Its first house was completed only in 1976. It is sited on the reclaimed territory of Flevoland.

The Almere districts of Noorderplassen West and Columbuskwartier were thus obvious candidates for actions under the CONCERTO project. In these areas, 2,000 eco-homes are being built, along with commercial and public buildings. Specific innovations with these developments include the integration of renewable energy sources and the application of energy efficiency measures in city planning, area development, public tendering, architecture and building.

ACT2 Site Nantes

The act2 project in Nantes was designed in 2003 as an integrated approach to enrich the local energy policy stated in the local Climate and Energy action plans led by Nantes Métropole Urban Community.

It also aims at improving practices of a complete chain of actors involved in the construction process: from decision makers to citizens, passing by building companies.

In this respect, activities to be implemented focus on three main areas:

SORCER Site Apeldoorn

Apeldoorn is situated in central Holland, to the east of Amsterdam and has around 155,000 inhabitants. It has set itself the ambitious target of becoming carbon neutral by 2020 and, through the CONCERTO project, is taking the first steps towards realising this aim by constructing 3,100 new dwellings of the highest energy standard.

In Hillerød, the regional capital of Denmark's North Seeland region, is showing that a zero CO2 community can become reality, with a development of more than 78,000 m² eco-houses that will exceed by at least a quarter of current energy efficiency standards.

The SORCER project was based on energy efficient dwellings with a maximum use of sustainable energy in two communities: Hillerød in Denmark and Apeldoorn in the Netherlands. As part of the project, Hillerød and Apeldoorn worked on very ambitious developments and their cooperation increased the impact of the demonstration, helping Europe to reduce dependence on energy imports, increase sustainability and stimulate growth and jobs.

SEMS

The intention of SEMS was to promote sustainable and capable energy saving and optimizing projects. The long term overall objective of the four core communities in Germany, Austria, Luxemburg and Poland is the self-supply of energy from renewable sources.This involved considerably lowering the energy consumption of the four communities and achieving a renewable energy supply rate of, respectively, 39% to 62% of the remaining end energy in the electricity and heat sector demand within five years.

SEMS Site Redange

The CONCERTO project in Redange, Luxembourg covers more than a tenth of the area of the country. The Redange canton is an agricultural area with ten villages and 14,000 inhabitants. Together with other communities, its objective is to switch over to renewable energy supply.

Redange already has a reputation in Luxembourg as a pioneer in energy efficiency and renewable energy. The project activities are a further step in the direction towards greater sustainability.

RENAISSANCE Site Lyon

Grand Lyon Urban Community is the 2nd conurbation of France and is located in the heart of the Rhone-Alps Region, which is at the peak of sustainable energy development in France. The Grand Lyon demonstrates through its direct participation in this project its will to make environment-friendly urban and building design a major axis of its commitment toward sustainable development.
